A dedicated scanner is another battery, another login, another thing to lose. Phone cameras are good enough for parts barcodes. Use them. Save the guns for a warehouse receiving bench if you even want them.

Install the app on the home screen. If it lives in a browser tab under fourteen other tabs, it will not get opened in a driveway.

Three actions, not a warehouse UI

Use, return, restock. Job number. Quantity. Photo of the part so they know they hit the right SKU. That is the scanner. Everything else is office software wearing a hoodie.

Offline is the difference between “we scan” and “we scanned until Tuesday”

The first time the spinner hangs in a basement, the tech goes back to memory. Queue locally. Show a pending badge. Sync when they have signal. Tell them it worked.

If the product cannot show a queued scan, techs will assume it failed and double-scan later. That is how you get ghost inventory.

Train on the five parts they already touch

Do not train on a 400-SKU catalog. Train on the capacitor, the valve, the pump, the fitting bag, and the filter. Success on those five creates the habit. Then expand.

Stand in a van for twenty minutes with each tech once. Remote webinars do not teach driveway scanning.

Measure scans per job, not speeches

Jobs with zero parts and a known repair are your coaching list. Do not start with accusations. Start with “this ticket usually has a part — did we miss a scan?” Most of the time the answer is yes and the next week is better.

Publish a weekly compliance number. Make it boring. Boring habits stick.
